Our Experiences

Our experience with Clinic Pastoral Care has been very wonderful. We have been able to ‘heal through relationships’. There are many things that we have been privileged to share with the patients; we have turned wards into a ‘home’ by sharing our love and laughter. As we get to know patients one on one, they gradually became a part of us such that we take them with us to Prayer and our life in general. Prayers and keeping a positive mind is paramount to our work. We meet different peoples, and we become a part of their life story. Like our UTH CPE motto goes, ‘people may not remember what you did or said but, they will always remember how you made them feel.’

However, we have also had our shares of challenging moments. Because we create bonds with the patients, it causes us sorrow and pain when their health condition deteriorates even further and when they eventually die.

In a nutshell, we would say, it has not been easy, but it has been wonderful.

Looking Back As a Group:

Before we commenced our CPE programme, Most of us had fears of a number of things. We didn’t think we would manage to handle the suffering of others. At this point, we thank God for having underwent this program. It has helped us discover our inner feelings towards the plight of others.

CPE has enabled us not only to develop skills of journeying with the suffering, but also better understand the social difficulties these individuals encounter in their day to day living. It also enables us to grasp a few health care concepts and skills. We believe this would be helpful in our future ministry.

During CPE programme, we not only take care of the sick physically, we also help them in their spiritual needs; we prepare Christians who are sick for catechism and prepare them for the Sacraments of Baptism, we proclaim the faith of the church in an interactive manner.

Therefore, we would encourage others aspiring to be ministers in the church to under take this program.
