ORIENTATION OF SUPERIORS AND TREASURERS

The Delegation Superior and Council organized an orientation session for community superiors and treasurers from January 23rd to 27th. The venue was the Oblate Administrative offices in Lusaka. “Called to serve” was the theme.

This was to reflect on Constitution 1: “the call of Jesus Christ, heard within the church through people’s need for salvation, draws us together as missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Christ thus invites us to follow him and share in his mission”.

Community Superiors shared their experiences of internal and external ministries in their respective units. It was noticed that Community life is highly valued with its internal ministries (prayer, retreats, pastoral, spiritual direction, hospitality, community meals, socials, meetings, planning for parish work and formation).

External ministries consist of a variety of activities (Masses in convents and formation houses, youth outreach, media, and many more). The emphasis was on C82 for Superiors to be a sign of the Lord’s loving and guiding presence. The Biblical story of Moses led the reflection on Religious leadership and the role of a local superior. Constitutions and Rules, and other directories should guide superiors in their ministry.

At the same time an orientation session was conducted for treasurers and communities’ bookkeepers. The aim was to enhance the Quick Books program skills for secretaries and bookkeepers in all the Oblate missions. Quick Books as our bookkeeping accounting system was introduced three years ago.

With the many changes in our ministry placements which have taken place at the beginning of this year, there is a need for a meeting to help people get oriented in the bookkeeping and administrative functions. We plan to have a follow up session in April to check on the progress in these areas.
