FIRST PROFESSION AT ST EUGENE DE MAZENOD PARISH, JOHANNESBURG

On February 3, 2006, at St Eugene de Mazenod Church in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, twelve novices made their first profession as Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, five of them are from our own Zambian Delegation.

These young men had completed their Novitiate at our Lady of Hope Novitiate in Johannesburg, under the direction of Rev. Vitalis Morale, Omi, Novice Master and his Associate, Rev Paul Waldie, Omi (Zambian delegation). The main celebrant of the Mass was Rev. Fr Peter Galloway, Omi, provincial of the Province of South Africa along with the Rev. Stuart Bate, Omi, Provincial of Natal, the Rev.Emmanuel Mosoeu, Omi, Provincial of the Central Province, and the Rev. Joseph Phiri, Omi, the Zambian Delegation Superior. Over twenty Oblates and diocesan Priests also concelebrated the Mass.

The Homilist was Rev. Emmanuel Mosoeu, Omi. The choir came from the Blessed Joseph Gerard Parish, in Freedom Park.

Each Provincial received the vows of their respective candidates, namely Bonga Thamsanqu Majola ( Northern), Stephen Brown and Thabani Muzonjani Shoba (Natal), Ndodana Tshuma ( Zimbabwe), Lehlohonolo Vincent Molete and Lechi Thomas (Central), Albertus Sheehama (Namibia), and Christopher Phiri, Theodore Hambaaba Mbulo, Raphael Lubanga, Richard Chanda and Michael Musaba ( Delegation of Zambia).

In the absence of the Rev.Philip Pollitzer, Omi, Provincial of Namibia, Rev. Peter Golloway received the vows of Albertus Sheehama. Fr Vitalis Marole served as the Master of ceremonies while the vote of thanks was given by Br Richard Chanda on behalf of the Novices. Fr Joseph Phiri, on behalf of the Inter Provincial Conference, and Fr Frank McGreal, the outgoing pastor of St Catharine/St. Eugene, on behalf of the Parish.

There were many parishioners and friends of the Novitiate who attended along with several other religious communities who work with the Novitiate. The Parish of St Eugene provided a very gracious and generous luncheon for all in attendance.
