This year’s international Women’s Day theme is “2006 for
the enhancement of women in decision making for sustainable
development.” Women working at the Delegation office took part
in commemorating their day. We used an Oblate Logo in our banner
because working with the Oblates makes us feel as part of the
Oblate legacy that promotes human dignity of the least privileged
in society.
And this is how we interpreted the celebration of the
International women’s day. Ms Sandra Zulu said it is time for
women to be included in decision making positions in political,
economical and social levels if development is to be attained.“Women
are considered not to be able to participate in decision making
due to the patriarchy that has been imposed on them by society”,
She said. She explained that women should be included in decision
making programs as it will lead to development because it is not
only households that benefit but also the nation and the world at
large. It is the role of every responsible citizen to care about
and respect women if sustainable development is to prevail.
Meanwhile Ms Jennifer Muwaya explained that empowerment is what
every woman should strive for ; it is time for women to realize
their potential and put it to proper use to bring about the
development of this nation.
Special thanks go to the OMI administrative office for
supporting and encouraging women to take up responsibilities which
enhance sustainable development.
