Being the first Zambian group preparing to study at Mukasa Philosophical Institute in Cameroon, we are experiencing a challenging missionary life. Yves-Plumey is an Oblate Scholasticate situated in the suburbs of Yaounde the Capital city.

It is in the midst of different congregation Houses. The location is very simple and accessible. It is about a hundred meters (100ms) from the Philosophical Institute and about ten kilometres (10kms) from town.

Cameroon and Yaoundé in particular has a dynamic climatic condition. You can not foresee or foretell if it will rain or not. The life is so much different from that of Zambia. The cultural diversity has been beyond our expectation but yet to be excelled.

It is in these environmental and cultural aspects of the country in which Yves-Plumey finds itself, with its own community and missionary dimensions.

Fr. Krzysztof Zielenda omi, from Poland is the Superior of the house. Fr. Guillaume Muthunda, from the DRC and Fr. Richard Henry, from France add up to make a complete formation team. These three Oblates make the heart of this Francophone formation house. They always seem to work in collegiality. As a matter of fact Yves-Plumey is comprised of candidates from seven (7) different countries. Thus, the community is of different national identities. However, the latter does not make the house to lose touch with the fruits of missionary demands.

As Yves Plumey continues harbouring different nationalities, it finds itself as the true centre of the Oblate Spirituality. The lifestyle, culture and the identities of different nationalities have all been assumed into the Oblate Spirituality.

This makes Yves Plumey a conducive environment for every Oblate Scholastic. It is a Scholasticate that seems to have stood the test of time in terms of concrete Oblate Missionary Life.

Our biggest challenge at the moment is that of accommodating ourselves into different cultures and adaptating to Francophone Formation dynamic. The language and food are the other challenges of our time.

However, besides this, we still remain comforted by our personal and communal determination. Together, we shall rely on your promising support. As we forge ahead, we again echo and ask ourselves the only and strong question of Pope John Paul II that “did Jesus Christ climb down from the cross?” In French we say “Petit à petit la vie évolue”
